Final Score: Stephen F. Austin 77, Texas-Arlington 54

Katy, TX (Sports Network) - Eddie Williams scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and the second-seeded Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks crushed the seventh-seeded Texas-Arlington Mavericks, 77-54, in quarterfinal action of the Southland Conference Tournament.

Orren Tims added 17 points for the Lumberjacks (22-8), who advanced to play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the semifinals on Thursday. Denzel Barnes contributed with 11 points, while Jereal Scott had 10 points with eight rebounds in the win.

Marquez Haynes led the Mavericks (16-14) with 17 points, but Texas-Arlington couldn't avoid finishing its season with four straight losses after shooting just 34 percent from the field Wednesday. Dwight Gentry provided 12 points, while Brandon Long had 10 in defeat.

The Lumberjacks got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 15-2 lead on a Tims layup about seven minutes into the game. The Mavericks never recovered and trailed by 20, 29-9, after a Barnes three-pointer with 7:47 to go.

Stephen F. Austin carried a 33-20 advantage into halftime and ran away with the contest in the second half. A pair of Scott free throws had the Lumberjacks ahead by 30, 62-32, and the outcome was never in doubt down the stretch.

Final Score: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 78, Texas-San Antonio 66

Katy, TX (Sports Network) - Kevin Palmer scored 26 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed five rebounds, and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders beat the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, 78-66, in the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference Tournament.

LaMarr Drake and Shamar Coombs each added 11 points for the third-seeded Islanders (17-14), who will play Stephen F. Austin in Thursday's semifinals. Justin Reynolds contributed 10 points in the win, as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi shot a very efficient 62.5 percent from the field.

Morris Smith IV led the sixth-seeded Roardrunners (19-11) with 16 points and 12 rebounds, but Texas-San Antonio could not continue its strong end to the season that saw the team win six of seven. Omar Johnson provided 13 points, while Terry Fields had 10 in defeat.

The Roadrunners held a 41-31 lead at halftime after Smith had eight points in the final 9 1/2 minutes of the frame, but it was all Islanders in the second half.

Palmer stroked a three to end a half-starting 7-0 burst that pulled the team to within three, and he later added six points during a 12-0 stretch that was capped by a Desmond Watt layup for a 52-47 advantage with 12 minutes remaining.

The Islanders steadily increased their cushion from there, reaching double digits on Horace Bond's dunk for a 70-59 lead with 3:14 to go. Texas-San Antonio never recovered.

Final Score: Sam Houston State 62, Nicholls State 57

Katy, TX (Sports Network) - The top-seeded Sam Houston State Bearkats defeated the eighth-seeded Nicholls State Colonels, 62-57, behind 20 points from Ashton Mitchell in tonight's Southland Conference Tournament quarterfinal affair.

Josten Crow added 13 points in the victory for Sam Houston State (23-7), while Gilberto Clavell netted 12. The Bearkats advance to the semifinals where they will faceoff against the winner of the Texas State/SE Louisiana game tomorrow night.

Anatoly Bose poured in 40 points in the loss for Nicholls State (11-19).
